An Interview with Chris Weatherburn, Self-Help Author

Today I had a chat with Chris Weatherburn, author of nonfiction.

Chris Weatherburn, self-help author

What inspired you to start writing?

I was undertaking academic fellowships after completing my training in family medicine. I attended a systematic and meta-analysis course and thought, I could use the skills to summarise books that I am reading. The process started several years ago and I’ve been synthesizing knowledge ever since!

Great! Who is your main inspiration?

Clearly this will have to be my parents, brother, sister, daughter and son!

Haha, sometimes it’s best to go for the correct answer! Please tell me, aside from writing, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I really have the love of learning and playing lots of sports. For me, the aim is to enjoy them rather than achieve mastery. I’m also currently enjoying tennis, volleyball, and cycling. I used to play squash regularly, but had to adapt due to social distancing. To overcome the lockdowns I purchased a PS4 with a VR headset and have had many an hour spent with my family enjoying this!

Most recently, I’ve started standup paddleboarding. You can find out more on my website.

Awesome! My husband and I love our PlayStation 4 as well. So much fun. Thanks for the link as well. Tell me about your writing space. Where do you usually write?

I usually listen to an audiobook on my phone; this provides inspiration. When I get to a pertinent, useful, thought-provoking point, I stop the audiobook and dictate into my Google calendar. When I get the chance, I use my desktop PC in my living room to turn these points into meaningful prose.

Fantastic! Would you say that you’re a a morning or night person? What time of day do you prefer to sit and write?

I like to stay up late but also like to lie in! My peak productive time is around 10am, with a dip around 2pm. However, writing is a side hobby for me as I have a full-time job. Most of the time, I write when I can!

That’s good you can be flexible, it’s a useful skill. What’s your favourite book genre? Do you write in that genre?

Self-development and self-improvement. I’ve written one book summarising key points in this genre.

Tell me your top three favourite books of all time. You can’t say your own!

There are so many to choose from, but I’d say Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Principles by Ray Dalio, and The Cobra by Frederick Forsyth.

Thank you! Have you ever read a book that changed your life?

Numerous books have changed my life. My aim is to help others make the most out of their lives by sharing this knowledge and making it accessible.

Definitely, self-help books should change people’s lives as they help them improve their behaviour and lifestyles. What’s your latest book about?

It’s called Book of Inspirational Book Reviews: All You Need To Know To Get The Most Out of Your Life. It’s a book of informative reviews of over 150 books to help you with all aspects of life! So it’s a sort of handbook recommending other books? What a unique concept! OK, something unrelated to writing! If you could go on a date with any celebrity, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would like to go on a date with Napoleon Hill to hear if what he wrote was true or not. Rumour has it he didn’t meet most of the successful people he claimed to have met!

Wow, that’s quite naughty of him! Sounds like his book still helped you, though. Where can we find out more about you?

You can find me on Twitter @ChrisWeatherbu1, on YouTube, and on my website,

Thank you, Chris!
