Today I had a chat with Isra Sravenheart, who writes dark fantasy fairytales!
Hi, Isra! Tell us about your books.
I will be releasing Touched by Darkness at the end of 2021/early 2022.
What’s the first book you ever remember reading?
First book I ever reading was Grimms Fairytales for sure.
Oooh, they’re great! What inspired you to start writing?
I have always been interested in writing from an early age. It has always appealed to me. I would often be scribbing things down. Stories, etc. But never found any that I stuck with until Her Dark Soul.
Who is your main inspiration?
Main inspiration? Okay: Neil Gaiman, L. Frank Baum, Gregory Maguire, Phillip Pullman. I love they pull the reader in.
Aside from writing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love resin crafting, jewellery making, watching movies and series on Netflix, I particularly love Disney and anything fantasy. I also do adult colouring in my spare time when I have the energy to do so.
Disney is awesome for sure, and colouring can be very therapeutic. Tell me about your writing space. Where do you usually write?
My laptop is fairly small so I can have it sat on my lap which is great for hot nights when I’m writing in my bedroom.
Are you a morning or night person? What time of day do you prefer to sit and write?
Night person for sure. I hate mornings! I work between 1am-5am to write on average. It works best for me, I feel.
Haha so you write dark fantasy during the Witching Hour! Do you plan out your stories or are you a pantser (making it up as you go along)?
I plan them out for sure. I know the endings of each book (very important in my opinion). But some bits are added during the writing process.
I agree that knowing where the story is going is important, but I admire pantsers who can make it all up on the fly and still have it make sense! What’s your favourite book genre? Do you write in that genre?
This may surprise some people as it’s thriller! I love a decent thriller.
You’re not alone there! Tell me your top three favourite books of all time.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, and Wicked by Gregory Maguire.
Have you ever read a book that changed your life?
Yes! American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Brilliantly written.
I love when you find a truly great book you can sink your teeth into. Who is your favourite book character who you’ve created?
I’d have to say Astrid. He’s so intricate, we never know where we are going with him.
What’s your latest book about?
Touched by Darkness – Dark Spell Series 6
Isra has come of age at nineteen. Astrid has been banished from Shambre Fell and is destined to remain as a raven for all eternity but little do the light folk know he’s still lurking around Isra.
Isra meets the enchanting lovable rogue Alan, who practically charms the pants off of everyone who lays eyes on him. Alan and Isra have an instant rapport. Alan is deeply attracted to Isra. He’s fascinated by her beauty and that sweet innocence and is aware that she’s a powerful sorceress. However, Astrid is also watching this blossoming romance from afar and is concerned for Isra’s welfare.
When Alan cruelly ditches Isra for another, the witch faces her shadow self once again. Isra is vowing revenge and she’ll do whatever it takes to get it. Even if that means darknening her heart once again.
Astrid faces an awkward dilemma. Does he come back to Shambre Fell risking further punishment as Samuel had ordered him to stay away from Isra for good or does he sit on his perch and do nothing?
Excellent, thank you! OK, something unrelated to writing! If you could go on a date with any celebrity, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Stefan Salvatorre, I think. He’s pretty damn interesting. Good looking, too. Or the guy who plays Lucifer in the Netflix series.
Tom Ellis! I loved him in Miranda, but Lucifer gained him nationwide attention for sure. Please tell readers where we can find out more about you.
